World leaders express 'horror and shock' over Connecticut shooting massacre

Sydney, Dec. 15 (ANI): World leaders have expressed their shock and horror over Connecticut shooting massacre that left over 28 people dead, 20 of which were children aged 5-10 yrs. In one of the worst school shootings in history, a masked gunman named Adam Lanza, 20, gunman massacred 20 small children and six teachers, including his mother, Nancy Lanza at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in the New England town of Newtown. UN chief Ban Ki-moon wrote to Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy to give his "deepest condolences at the shocking murders," a statement said, The Age reports. "The targeting of children is heinous and unthinkable," he added in condemning the "horrendous" crime which occurred on Friday local time. According to the paper, European Union diplomacy chief Catherine Ashton expressed "shock" at the "tragic shooting". Britain's Queen Elizabeth II sent a message to President Barack Obama in which she said she was "deeply shocked and saddened" to hear of the shootings. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper also wrote about the incident on his Twitter account, "The news is just awful. The thoughts and prayers of Canadians are with the students and families in CT affected by this senseless violence." British Prime Minister David Cameron addressed the incident too. "I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear about today's horrific shooting. My thoughts are with the injured and those who have lost loved ones. It is heartbreaking to think of those who have had their children robbed from them at such a young age, when they had so much life ahead of them," he said. (ANI)
