Work Rest and Play with an Office Desk Bed

Perfect for the workaholic who sleeps at the office, but equally suited to small studio space, the Office Desk Bed is the comfortable way to take a reviving power nap in the office.

Designed to look good in any modern office, the Office Desk Bed starts the day as a spacious all-white work surface with ample space to hold your laptop, telephone and paperwork. The end panels are tastefully finished with a slatted light wood design and there is plenty of legroom for a matching white leather office chair. However, it’s what this everyday piece of furniture can quickly turn into that makes it worth a second look.

Conceptualized by Greek Architect Athanasia (Nancy) Leivaditou of Studio NL, this Office Desk Bed converts quickly and easily from a contemporary white desk into a comfy day bed. It is made from wood, leather and plexiglass and the clever design incorporates a mattress, inclined backrest and even a flatscreen TV. It is the perfect space to allow stressed out executives to relax during their lunch break, watch a movie or even sleep overnight in comfort and privacy.

The 17 square-foot desk is a "dream bed" in every sense of the word. When work is done, the desktop slides back to avoid the user feeling enclosed and claustrophobic in the lower space. The back of the desk folds down to create a comfortable padded sleep platform and the end panel drops to a comfortable recline position to support a pillow for sleeping. Alternatively, users can lean back in a semi-reclined position and make use of the TV/computer monitor at the opposite end of the day bed. When sleep is done, the daybed quickly reverts to a traditional white desk so no-one will ever guess what lies beneath.

A short power nap can help combat fatigue and counter sleep deprivation, according to doctors and sleep experts. A 20-minute power nap on your Office Desk Bed will help boost memory and enhance creativity. Studies shows that napping for 30-60 minutes in slow-wave sleep enhances decision-making skills and aids memory, vocabulary and recall. Snooze a little longer and 60-90 minutes of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep will help the brain make new connections which help solve creative problems.

Studio NL has won several awards for their interior designs and believes that architecture is simply re-invention of what already exists. The company has won the Bronze A'Award for designing a compact space-challenged apartment in Athens.

Turning their attention to office furniture, their Office Desk Bed is equally suitable for a home office or small studio apartment where every piece of furniture has to be multifunctional for a range of uses. Now you really can work, sleep and play in one small well-designed space.
