Is This Why Cam Newton Walked Out Of His Super Bowl Postgame Press Conference?

The Carolina Panthers fell to the Denver Broncos during Sunday night’s (Feb. 7) Super Bowl 50 game. And while there were some reports on what Peyton Manning did right, or what plays failed out on the field, the biggest topic of discussion seemed to be focused on Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton.

Newton made headlines not for the loss, but for his postgame interview, where after a very brief question and answer conference, he walked out of the interview. In some ways, the interview was brutal. Newton is seen surrounded by reporters, asking about what went wrong for the Carolina team and his thoughts on the loss. Newton followed the questions with a number of “no’s” and short sentences. When asked about what he did or didn’t expect, the quarterback follows, “They just played better than us. I don’t know what you want me to say. They made more plays than us and that’s what it comes down to. We had our opportunities. We dropped balls, we turned the ball over, gave up sacks, errant passes. That’s it. They scored more points than us.” The player was shown with his head held down and breathing deeply before making his exit.

Although he isn’t required to answer questions, many viewers had a problem with his overall demeanor, saying he acted unprofessionally and unsportsmanlike during the interview. An Internet discussion broke about the interview, including a few controversial comments from ex-NFL player Bill Romanowski saying, “You will never last in the NFL with that attitude. The world doesn’t revolve around you, boy!”

According to Sporting News, it was not just Newton’s loss that sent him over the edge. As the Panthers star was participating in his own conference, Broncos quarterback Chris Harris was reportedly in close quarters talking to reporters as well. Giving insight into his team’s strategy against the Carolina team, Harris said: “Load the box, force y’all to throw the ball. Can you throw the football? That was the gameplay.” That was apparently when Newton had enough.
