Yazidi Women Recount Experiences of Violence at the Hands of Militants

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reports that every day, hundreds of kidnapped women and girls in Iraq and Syria suffer violence and abuse at the hands of militants. According to the organization, those who escape, or are released, often have no home or family to return to.

In this footage three women recount the violence and abuse they suffered at the hands of militants. The first clip documents the story of Yazidi mother Naseema and her son.

The UN notes that they were released after months in captivity but her husband, daughters and other sons are still missing. In the video above Naseema talks to UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie, who has met with women in Iraq in recent months. Credit: YouTube\UNHCR
