Water level of Ganges river rises alarmingly in UP

The water level of Ganges river is constantly on the rise in Varanasi, creating difficulties for residents and devotees. The water of the river is flowing above the danger mark as it is rising by eight centimeter every hour due following heavy rains. Residents staying adjacent to the river bank said that they were relocating to a higher level away from the water. Authorities have also prohibited boating in the Ganges river. Varanasi is one of the world's oldest inhabited cities and a centre for Hindus who come to wash away their sins in the sacred river. It is one of the holiest cities of the Hindus.
