Security on alert as Pakistan, Bangladesh women cricket teams kick off series

Tight security was in place as visiting Bangladesh women's cricket squad played the first T20 international against host Pakistan, which Pakistan won by 28 runs, kicking off a series in Karachi. Pakistan and Bangladesh women squads played the first game with massive security deployed around Karachi's Southend Club, the venue of the game. A female crowd of mostly school girls and teachers turned up to witness the match. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has promised foolproof security for the Bangladeshi women's team, with players staying at the same club where they will play their matches. Kainat Imtiaz, a woman cricketer, who had been part of Pakistan team at the 2010 Asian Games, said the series will portray Pakistan's image as a safe country abroad. Bangladesh Manager Mohammad Shafique Ul Haque and Sana Mir, captain of Pakistan's women team were happy for the crowd's response. The second T20 will be played on October 02.
