Reservation protests to hit India-South Africa cricket match

Twenty two-year-old caste crusader, Hardik Patel on Saturday announced his Patel community's plans to hold protests during the one-day cricket match between India and South Africa in his home state of Gujarat, demanding reservation in government jobs and educational institutions. He said more than 10,000 members of Patel community would flood the cricket stadium in Rajkot on October 18 when India will play against South Africa. Patel, who has been spearheading the agitation for three months to demand quota for his community under the other backward castes (OBC) category, promised a peaceful protest. To prevent any untoward incident, the police has made three tier security arrangements at the stadium and made it mandatory for ticket seekers to produce their identity cards.
