Police bust cricket betting racket in Telangana

Police in Hyderabad city busted a cricket betting racket with the arrest of 13 people and seized rupees 26 lakh (rupees 2.6 million) in cash. The police had on Tuesday (July 21) conducted raids in different locations of the city while a test match between South Africa and Bangladesh was going on and found the accused were involved in a betting racket. Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said the main bookie operating in the city has also been held. The racket was not only confined to Hyderabad but spread over three other states. Reddy added that now as the investigation would proceed, they would nab more people involved in illegal activity. The betting sessions are organised for every 10-over and the accused were involved in betting for the past six months, added Reddy. Several betting communication equipments like mobile phones and laptops were also recovered.
