Kurdish Forces Clear IS From Syrian Village

A Kurdish military campaign successfully cleared the village of Tal Hemeis, in the contested northern Syrian province of Al Hasakah, from Islamic State factions on February 27, according to activist and local reports. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported significant casualties on both sides. At least two Syrian armed rebel groups reportedly fought alongside the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

The US Military Central Command also reported striking a number of IS targets around Al Hasakah, on February 27. Kurdish forces supported by the US-led coalition air strikes also cleared the Al Hasakah city of Kobane from Islamic State advances in January 2015 after several months of battles.
