Heavy rainfall in Kashmir, people fear repeat of last year's floods

Heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir has left many parts of Srinagar city waterlogged, creating fear of repeat of last year's floods among the residents. The valley has been receiving heavy rainfall since Saturday, leading to landslides which damaged more than 40 structures including residential houses. Many roads were flooded and some people were also seen shifting their goods to safer places. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said the reason behind heavy downpour is western disturbances in quick succession. The rainfall has once again forced the closure of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Meanwhile, minister for irrigation and flood control in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdul Majid Padder, said there is no need to panic.
