Hamilton seals win in Austin

The formula one title race will be decided at the final stop in Brazil later this month after Sebastian Vettel failed in his bid to wrap up the championship early at the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas which was won by McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton. Vettel started from pole and needed a win and his only title challenger Fernando Alonso to finished outside the top five. The German double world champion, who was racing a milestone 100th career GP, got off to a blistering start but had Hamilton snapping at his heels immediately. It quickly turned into a two-man race and Hamilton’s persistence finally paid off with around 14 laps to go around the undulating Circuit of the America’s when he overtook Vettel. The McLaren driver never looked back until he took the chequered flag for the win. It was Hamilton’s fourth win of the season. Vettel finished second while Ferrari’s Alonso weaved his way from seventh on the grid to third in F1’s return to the US after a five year absence. It will now go all the way to the wire at the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paolo where Vettel will start 13 points clear of Alonso as he looks for a third straight title. Despite Vettel’s second place and team-mate Mark Webber pulling out with a mechanical problem on lap 17 – Red Bull garnered enough points to clinch the constructors’ title for the third year in a row.
