Clash between police and protesters on their way for Tral march

Clashes between police and protestors took place in Srinagar on Friday to protest against the arrest of Kashmiri separatist leader Masarat Alam. The hardline leader has been accused by police and authorities in Jammu and Kashmir of inciting his supporters to wave Pakistani flags and raise pro-Pakistan slogans during a public meeting in the region on Wednesday to welcome another separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Earlier in the day, as a preventive measure to maintain law and order, Alam and Geelani were placed under house arrest by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The state government also denied permission for the proposed congregation in Tral today, with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed reportedly instructing the police to refuse permission for the rally.
