A video of a Saudi businesswoman driving in the eastern city of Khobar has been posted to YouTube to mark International Women’s Day, according to reports in the Kingdom.

Akhbaar 24 online reported that Dr. Aisha Al Manei defied a ban in the country on women driving and posted the video in a bid to ‘disprove claims that men harass women who drive in Saudi’.

According to the reports, Dr. Manei said that people in Khobar found it ‘normal’ for women to drive, but also stated that if women were permitted to drive across the whole kingdom they would no longer have to employ expats as drivers.

In October 2013, 60 women got behind the wheel in a rare show of defiance against a ban on female driving as part of an awareness campaign.

This campaign was supported by Saudi comedian Hisham Fageeh who produced a parody video set to Bob Marley’s hit ‘No Woman, No Cry’ – called ‘No Woman, No Drive’ – which became a worldwide hit on social media.
