Video Premiere: Rachel Brown’s ‘You Got Me’ Is Irresistibly Adorable

If you don’t believe in destiny, you should consider Rachel Brown’s story. Just a week after graduating from Harvard, the girl who dreamed of becoming a singer and taught herself how to play the guitar joined hip-hop superstar Wyclef Jean on stage for an impromptu rendition of “Redemption Song.”

When Brown released her first EP in 2012, one of the songs (”Bumblebee”) was featured in a Robbins Brothers engagement ring commercial that was spotlighted in a Jay Leno monologue.

Brown embodies even more infectiousness in her latest song, “You Got Me,” a bubbly ode to being in love that features an equally irresistibly adorable video conceived by the artist, who sought advice from Amsale Aberra, Brown’s mother and esteemed bridal designer who has worked with Halle Berry, Julia Roberts and Salma Hayek.

Brown is happy to see the video come to fruition. “I had been kicking around the concept for this video for over a year, trying to pair it with different songs,” she said in an exclusive statement to Yahoo Music. “It wasn’t until I wrote and released ‘You Got Me’ that I finally found the track it was meant for. The song is playful, upbeat, with a slight retro feel and a touch of whimsy which completely matches the world in the video. And who doesn’t want their best friend to be a monkey?”

“You Got Me” appears on Brown’s latest EP, The Band, that includes collaborations with Grammy-winning producer Scott Jacoby (Vampire Weekend, Pink, John Legend).
