Getting too drunk

This has to come at the top of the list. Alcohol is a risky substance as one moment it can make you feel elated and the next you’re hugging a spinning lavatory feeling far from the chilled-out sipper you started out as. Enduring a hangover on your wedding day surely isn’t what you had in mind for what is supposed to be the best day of your life. So, allow yourself one or two drinks to calm your wedding jitters or to help you sleep, so that you’re bright-eyed and bushy-tailed the following morning.

Eating spicy or strong food

Whether you can hack the spice or not, it’s a known fact that too much heat when it comes to food can have a far from desirable effect on your stomach. Not only could you be dealing with a dodgy tum on the day of your wedding, you may also be facing the sweats and dizziness, not to mention excreting the aroma of your spicy meal through your pores – not ideal for the ‘you may now kiss the bride’ moment. Keep things simple with a plain meal that won’t leave you running for the bathroom.

Having a late night

You don’t want to look back at your wedding photographs and cringe at your puffy eyes and pallid skin, do you? You’ve got lots of opportunities for late nights on your honeymoon, but choosing the night before your big day for an all-nighter is not wise. Not catching enough Zs the night before your wedding will prevent you from enjoying your day to the max and could leave you feeling irritable. Make the most of this special day by being alert, energised and ready to boogie.

New cosmetics

Experimenting with new cosmetics can be a risk at the best of times, but choosing the day before your wedding to try out a new face cream or mascara could be a massive mistake. Your wedding day is surely going to be one of the most photographed days of your entire life, so tampering with your long-established beauty regime could result in some cringe-worthy snaps. Swollen eye lids, rashes and outbreaks of acne are all common reactions to unfriendly cosmetics, so stick to what you know, or keep some antihistamines to hand instead.

Rough and tumble

No, we’re not talking bedroom antics here; we’re talking groomsmen and their boyish behaviour! Understandably, the groom and his best man can get nervous the day before the wedding. The prospect of speeches and vows may just prove too much to handle, so it’s no surprise that the male wedding team will seek some light relief. In typical male fashion, they will pursue adrenaline-boosting activities such as paintballing. But groomsmen beware – the bride and her ladies will not be impressed by a pack of bruised boys come the big day.

A hair cut

Making decisions during a last-minute panic should be avoided at all costs. Panic shopping or changes of plan made at the eleventh hour will not result positively, and that includes a manic trip to the hairdresser – or worst, a DIY haircut. Changing your hair colour or style so soon before your big day isn’t wise and you’re better off sporting your current ‘do just to be safe. If you hate your new hair, then there’s nowhere to hide.

DIY alterations

Let’s get straight to the point here; do NOT under ANY circumstance, alter your wedding dress or suit yourself! Unless you are genuinely skilled at sewing, then you could risk ruining your wedding outfit completely. One slip of the scissors could be the difference between ‘blushing bride’ and ‘devastated bride.’ If you have genuine concerns about the fit or quality of your garment pay a visit to a professional seamstress instead.
