VIDEO: 2022 World Cup re-vote 'not practical' says Qatar bid official

A key member of Qatar's 2022 World Cup bid committee has dismissed the threat of a re-vote should the tournament be moved to winter, as is looking increasingly likely.

Nasser Al-Khater is adamant that a re-vote for the staging of the World Cup, awarded to Qatar in December 2010 but shrouded in controversy ever since, would "not be practical".

His remarks came prior to comments attributed to FIFA's Secretary General, Jerome Valcke, on Wednesday in which he said that "the dates of the World Cup will not be in June or July. I think it will be played between November 15 and January 15 at the latest."

FIFA countered those claims soon after, however, issuing a statement insisting that no decision had been made on when the World Cup would take place and that Valcke had merely expressed "his own view"..

Whatever the case may be, officials in Qatar remain relaxed about their position, insisting that the threat of any legal action from losing bidders should the tournament be switched is "FIFA's issue", not theirs.

Issues over the soaring summer heat have long plagued Qatar's bid while the Gulf nation has also faced labour abuse accusations in recent months.
