Hosted by Doha English Speaking School (DESS Doha), the 30 BSAK students rose to the occasion by excelling in the three-day event, which attracted 12 schools across the Middle East.

Despite it being the children’s first BSME Games, they showed no signs of nerves. The Abu Dhabi school finished third in three of the five categories – basketball, swimming and athletics, while they ended the campaign on a high, being crowned football champions.

Those achievements helped them accumulate 47 points in total, missing out on silver to Dubai English Speaking School (49), and champions DESS Doha (53). Michael McFarlane, PE teacher who travelled with the BSAK squad, was thrilled by their performances.

“It was a fantastic achievement,” he said. “They really stepped up in an elite international competition and the children were not nervous at all. There were some great performances by the children who had to be at their very best to win.

“I was really pleased by the sheer effort they put in and on their ability to work as a team as that what counts if they want to win games. They can be really proud of themselves.”
