Heavy rains, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed the eastern regions of the UAE on Friday, with more rain predicted this week, local daily Gulf News reported on Sunday.
Parts of Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah experienced heavy rain, while the Shawka area in Ras Al Khaimah also saw hail, the report said.
The change in weather was caused by warm, humid air from the Oman sea, which formed convective clouds when mixed with colder air in the region, the report said.
Chances of rain are high on Sunday and Tuesday as well, while Monday will see lower showers for the same areas.
A weather forecaster told Gulf News the wet weather was typical in the summer months in the eastern region, adding that the UAE would see a drop in temperature by the end of the month.
