Over time, whites and brightly coloured fabrics can become yellowed, dingy, or dull, even without an obvious cause.

It seems that white laundry, especially t-shirts and socks, are magnets for stains, so it's crucial to know how to tackle common stains from sweat, dirt, food, or drinks.

Instead of reaching for harsh chemicals or optical brighteners, you can use the right ingredients and methods as bleach alternatives to rescue your garments, reports the Express.

Even with proper washing techniques to prevent dark fabric dyes from bleeding onto other items, some discolouration is almost bound to happen. But social media users are being clued into one way to whiten and remove stains in just one hour with a 'powerful mix'.

Chantel Mila Ibbotson, who runs the Instagram page @mama_mila_au, has revealed a three-ingredient "powerful" mixture that will make your whites "brighter" than before. Her video caption reads: "How to make your white clothes look new again. Say goodbye to dingy white clothes."

In the video, Chantel begins by showing a stained white t-shirt, then she adds it to a bowl and pours warm water over it until the garment is fully submerged.

"This simple method keeps your whites looking whiter and brighter. It's perfect for socks, t-shirts and linens," she explains.

After adding a quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide for brightening and disinfecting, one cup of baking soda for deodorising and brightening, and a teaspoon of dish soap. Dish soap is only required for oil-based stains, which means it can be excluded depending on the stain type.

Chantel let the top soak before washing it as usual in her machine, saying: "This powerful mix lifts stains and makes your whites look brighter."

Several Instagram users showed interest in this method, with one querying how long clothes should soak in this solution. In response, Chantel said: "Usually an hour or two."
