Best dressed 2014: Indian ethnic

Indian ensembles are no longer just about neon pops of colour, layers of sequins and saris dragged down by heavy-weight borders. This year, Bollywood's best dressed women favoured baby hues just as much as they did their staple shimmering lehengas and Manish Malhotras.

At Ahana Deol's February wedding, sister Esha Deol went as far as matching her saffron Shyamal & Bhumika with a studded sling for her injured arm. Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha favoured the same hues, congratulating the newly weds in a sunset sari and deep blue anarkali respectively.

But when it came to the most vibrant saris, Vidya Balan was the clear winner. This year, she skipped the Kanjivarams for chiffons in fuchsia and mango yellow. The sunny hue was also a favourite with Dia Mirza, the second big bride of 2014.

The third major wedding this year (which is still creating a bit of a buzz online) was Arpita Khan's. Each guest's red carpet look topped the other, starting with Sonakshi Sinha’s scarlet Manish Malhotra, followed by Shraddha Kapoor's fuss-free Shivan & Narresh sari, and ending with that gorgeous Sonaakshi Raaj sari worn by Malaika Arora Khan - perfect, perhaps, for a summer wedding.
