Pakistan Cricket Board agree to host five-match series against Kenya in December

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to host a five-match series with Kenya to be played in Lahore next month in another attempt for revival of international cricket in Pakistan.

No foreign team except Afghanistan has travelled to Pakistan after a terror attack on Sri Lankan cricket team back in March 2009 which left five policemen dead while some Sri Lankan players were also left injured.

PCB was hoping to host Ireland this year in September in a three-match ODI series but an attack on Karachi Airport ended any hopes of revival of international cricket.

Several attempts made to launch Pakistan’s own T20 premier league –which could allow international players to come and play in the country in few matches-- have also not materialized due to various reason.

But now there is a renewed hope with associate nation Kenya coming to play in Pakistan.

“The entire series would consist of day matches, and shall be spread over 45-overs each”, said Zakir Khan, Chairman, Organizing Committee for the series and PCB’s Director International Cricket.

Kenyan cricket team will be arriving on December 11 in Lahore and all five matches of the rubber shall be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, it was decided in a meeting chaired by PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmad.

The five one-dayers will be played on December 13, 15, 16, 18 and 20 while Kenyans will depart on 21st.

Another PCB official said that water-tight security will be provided to the visitors in order to send out a strong message to the world.

“Top level security will be provided to Kenya because it will be a new dawn and we want to make it a successful and secure one. It’s a step by step process to bring top teams to Pakistan,” the official said while talking to Sport360.

“The federal government will be taking the responsibility of security and not the government of Punjab.”
