OFFICIAL: World Cup star Rodriguez joins Ronaldo and Bale at Real Madrid

World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez has become Real Madrid's latest Galactico after the club confirmed the arrival of the Colombian star on a six-year contract.

While no fee has been disclosed, it is believed Madrid will pay AS Monaco in the region of €81million (Dh402m) for the 23-year-old, who shone in Brazil earlier this summer.

James was all smiles as he posed for the photographers after successfully undergoing a medical in the Spanish capital earlier on Tuesday.

Thousands of Madridistas are expected to attend James' unveling at the Bernabeu later tonight where president Florentino Perez will also be present after postponing his trip to the US to see the deal through.

James, who top scored at the World Cup with six goals in Colombia’s march to the quarter-finals, becomes Madrid's second high-profile signing of the past week following the capture of Germany international Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich.

Aside from picking up the Golden Boot, James also scored the best goal of the 2014 World Cup in Colombia's 2-0 win over Uruguay in the last 16.

The Colombian will also be the third most expensive signing in his new club’s history, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, and he will take the number 10 shirt which was left vacant by last year’s departure of Mesut Ozil.

James' move to the Bernabeu is the fourth of his short career following stints with Envigado, Banfield and Porto before his €45m switch to Monaco last summer.

He impressed in his debut season at the Ligue 1 side, scoring nine goals and creating another 12 in 34 Ligue 1 outings to help Monaco to a second place finish and qualification for the Champions League.

James' arrival is likely to spell the end for a number of players at Madrid with the likes of Angel Di Maria, Sami Khedira and Isco all linked with moves away.

While Arsenal lead the chase for Khedira and Liverpool and Manchester City monitor Isco's situation, it is more likelty that Di Maria will leave with Rodriguez set to inherit the central attacking midfield role occupied by the Argentine.
