Nasser Al Attiyah will not ease off the pedal after Pharaons Rally success

Qatar’s Nasser Al Attiyah says he is hoping to carry on his winning form for as long as he can, after clinching the Pharaons Rally in Egypt on Saturday evening.

The Qatari has now won two of the four opening rounds of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies and lies second overall in the championship with Russian Vladimir Vasilyev leading the standings and Erick Van Loon of The Netherlands in third.

Apart from winning in Egypt, Al Attiyah had earlier won his home event, the Sealine Rally, and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge prior to that.

However, the Qatari was disqualified from the Abu Dhabi results by FIA stewards for a rule infringement. Al Attiyah says he has
appealed the disqualification to the FIA tribunal.

Speaking on his Pharaons campaign, Al Attiyah said: “Of course our plan for the Pharaons Rally was to win the race, but we started out quite steady on the first day.

“Then we pushed on the second stage and this helped us to take the overall lead. From the second day onwards we led the race all the way with a significant increase in the lead happening on the fourth stage. On the final day we felt in control of the race, the win is very satisfying.”

The Qatari says he loves competing in the Pharaons Rally, adding: “And of course, I love to win.

"So far this has been such a fantastic year for us and we are looking forward to carrying on like this for as long as we can.”
