Ice hockey player tweets brutal picture of scars after being struck by a flying puck

Ryan Olsen (Twitter)

It is not exactly a great advert for a night out in Winnipeg.

But tourists shouldn't fret too much because the image of WinnipegJets ice hockey prospect Ryan Olsen looking like he had been the victim of a mugging was apparently all part of the game.

Fighting is as much a part of ice hockey as chasing the puck.

It was both that apparently contributed to poor Olsen's downfall as he felt the full force of a puck in the face after a fight broke out on the ice with Olsen turning out for St John's IceCaps against the Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League on Friday night.

The image above shows the damage the small piece of plastic can do. And the video belows shows the fight breaking out before the puck struck. Not that he will be pressing charges any time soon. In fact, Olsen looked happy as he tweeted his scars like a badge of honour. He looks ripe to audition for the role of the Joker in Batman.

They'd save a fortune on make-up.
