George Ford hoping to move on from Rugby World Cup disappointment with Bath

George Ford will seek to overcome his disappointment over England’s World Cup demise by throwing himself into the start of Bath’s Premiership title challenge.

Stuart Lancaster’s players will return to their clubs on Monday once a failed group campaign has concluded against Uruguay at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

Ford has been restored at fly-half for the clash with the tournament’s weakest team after being dropped for the defeats to Wales and Australia that sealed England’s fate.

“Every individual will want to do it a little bit different,” Ford said. “I’m going to go straight back in – I think most of the other Bath boys are as well – just mainly because I want to carry on playing rugby.

“If I got away from it for a week, all I’d probably do is sulk anyway. I’ll crack on and go back training every day and hopefully get a good start to the season with Bath.

“Hopefully they will manufacture a way for us to have a break for us in the schedule later on so we can freshen up. I love being with England but I love going back to the club too. Everyone enjoys the upbeat environment there and loves the way we play.”

England have offered a glimpse of their future against the South Americans by selecting a midfield trio of Ford, Owen Farrell and Henry Slade.

Ford and Farrell have been competing for the role of chief conductor for the past two years and will start alongside each other for the first time since last autumn, reprising a partnership that was present for the Red Rose at age grade.
