Fun and fitness in the capital: KidsFest Abu Dhabi
Don’t stay indoors this Eid Al Adha. Instead, get out and take advantage of the increasingly good weather with a day at KidsFest, Abu Dhabi’s answer to family fun, entertainment, fitness and sport during the holidays.
Thousands of people from all over the Gulf region celebrated the city’s largest family festival’s opening day yesterday (Wednesday), but there’s so much more in store for visitors to the Zayed Sports City mega playscape in the next few days.
There you’ll find live music and performances of classic children’s tales, such as Pinocchio and Alice in Wonderland, as well as a Young Musicians Music School for kids to shine in, plus interactive fitness classes such as yoga, spinning and Zumba, which had everyone up and active on the first day.
As the festivities continue you’ll see and experience acrobatics, plate spinning, face painting, balloon modelling and more at the circus school tent; goats, a pony, cockatoo, and star attraction the python, among others at the petting zoo, take advantage of inflatable slides and bouncy castles, carnival rides, good food and drink, and all this while parents get some much needed down time by shopping for art or even getting pampered with manicures.
The health and fitness area too, supported by Healthpoint, offers adults a bit of fun alongside their little ones and yesterday they went head to head in the giant Challenger obstacle inflatable, while children competed in Abu Dhabi’s Fittest Kid which in the first day posted impressive scores from the participants, and continues this weekend.
And we’d be deeply disappointed if sport wasn’t well represented, but it is, and with a huge focus on fun too in the form of a climbing wall, soapy football, tennis clinics, access to football and rugby pitches, plus pedal cars, and even a pugilist stand.
“It has been a brilliant day,” said visitor Thomas Wellman, father of two from Abu Dhabi yesterday. “We have had an amazing time. There is just so much to do here. We were really surprised at the number and the variety of activities there are for children. My two have really enjoyed themselves.”
