Flowers on your wedding day

Flowers on your wedding day: where will you incorporate them?
Flowers on your wedding day: where will you incorporate them?

Start the day with flowers

Flower options for your church or ceremony venue start with an arrangement for the entrance or the walkway. A beautiful look is to line the pathway with flowers and candles or have a stunning arrangement just at the entrance, which makes an ideal place for the first photos. You can opt for pew or chair flowers, or flowers on the altar or backdrop of your ceremony. Think about where you will sign the register, as a display here would be ideal for more photographs. Take aspects of your wedding theme and add these to the flower displays for continuity.

Blooming marvellous

Your reception venue creates even more opportunity for flowers. Again, lining the entrance is a great start and flowers at the bar or even on the trays bringing through canapés and drinks can be a nice touch. The centrepieces are key – they can be as simple or extravagant as you wish. Here you can combine flowers with other items such as candles, shells, even glass bowls with floating blooms. If your budget is low then focus on the centrepieces to give them the wow factor. Cut the budget even further and DIY! Something very simple like champagne flutes with a long stemmed bloom or floating candle can still be very eyecatching. A display next to the cake is a lovely touch for additional photographs.

Flower people

You are not only adorning your venue with flowers but also your bridal party. The most obvious place to start is the bride’s bouquet as this is central to the theme so everything else can be a continuation of this. Next to consider is the bridesmaids’ bouquets. You may want to choose a slightly different bouquet for the chief bridesmaid or flower girls, or you may choose to match their bouquets with yours. Button holes for the groom and his merry men and corsages for the mothers of the bride and groom are popular choices to ensure they stand out on the day. You don’t have to choose a corsage of course; equally as effective is a hat pin flower or a flower hair piece. And don’t forget to order some extra bouquets to present to the mothers as a thank you at the reception. If you have some special guests who are not part of the wedding party consider ordering some extra button holes and corsages for them, making them feel part of your special day.

Something different

There are other options to consider besides traditional flower arrangements – you can even opt for edible flowers served up in cocktails or champagne. Hibiscus flowers added to a drink slowly open up and add flavour, making a perfect addition to a tropical summer wedding. Instead of the usual confetti option, a much more eco-friendly and a beautiful touch is to provide your guests with flower petals to shower you with as you take your first steps as husband and wife. Use flowers for your guests’ favours, each place setting with its own small flower pot, ready to be planted in a garden to continue the happy memories of the day. Read more on getwed.com...
