El Salvador players react confused and angrily as wrong national anthem plays

It’s usually uncommon for fans to boo during their own national anthem slot and for players to look both annoyed and upset.

But that’s exactly what happened when El Salvador played Argentina, with supporters of the former nation getting irate after the wrong track was boomed around the FedExField Stadium in Maryland.

The players looked perplexed as another anthem – believed to be the Isle of Man’s – was played out as they awkwardly exchanged glances.

Not quite knowing what to do, the players looked confused and angry at the bizarre situation.

Eventually, the players moved on with the match and tried to forget about the whole debacle, but it cannot have been easy to hide their frustrations.

The organisers have since apologised, insisting that it was an "honest mistake".

For those wondering, here's what the actual El Salvador anthem sounds like (scroll to 0:35 in the below clip):

An experimental Argentina side led by Angel Di Maria claimed a 2-0 win, with injured captain Lionel Messi remaining on the bench.
