Eight Emiratis handed positions within the Asian Football Confederation

His Excellency Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi was among eight Emiratis to gain positions in the Asian Football Confederation’s Standing Committees.

Al Rumaithi was originally elected as one of 12 new members of the governing body’s Executive Committee in April. His influence has increased after he was announced as chairman of the Development Committee for the ongoing presidential term from 2015-19.

A number of other senior roles have been taken up by Emiratis, Al Nasr tweeting their praise after chairman Marwan bin Ghalita joined the Finance Committee.

“The Board of Directors for Al Nasr and all employees send their congratulations and blessing to His Excellency Marwan bin Ghalita on joining the Finance Committee of the Asian Football Confederation,” they said.

The makeup of the committees were discussed at the first meeting of the latest ExCo in Bahrain on Saturday. Two deputy-chairman spots have been filled by UAE nationals; Abdulrahman Lootah in the Appeals Committee and Obaid Mubarak Al Shamsi in the Technical Committee.

The other UAE nationals to become members are former Al Wahda chairman Aref Al Awani in the Competitions Committee, Amal Bu Shallakh in the Women’s Committee, Ali Hamad Al Badwawi in the Referees Committee and Saleh Al Obaidli in the Legal Committee.
