Duminy heroics sees Delhi edge past Kolkata

JP Duminy produced a thunderous six to provide a fitting finale as Delhi Daredevils edged a barnstorming grandstand finish against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The South African battered Piyush Chawla into the stands to give victory to Gary Kirsten's side with three balls remaining at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Previously, Kolkata had recovered from another ponderous Indian Premier League start to reach 166-5 after scoring 103 off the last 10 overs.

There was no Kevin Pietersen for Delhi to turn to, with a finger injury ruling him out a second time.

Watched on by the high-profile former England international, Dinesh Karthik's half-century set the platform for Duminy to go on to strike the winning runs in stunning fashion.

The tension in the ground was palpable, and when Manoj Tiwary hooked to Morne Morkel, Delhi needed 40 runs from the final four overs with five wickets remaining.

The balance swung in their favour as Duminy lashed Morkel for successive sixes in the 18th over.

Six runs were needed off the final six balls, with James Neesham being caught by Pathan before Duminy raised his fist in joy after bludgeoning the winning boundary.
