Dubai makes TripAdvisor list of best 25 travel destinations
Dubai has for the first time made the list of the ‘Best 25 Places to Go in the World’ in TripAdvisor.com’s Traveller Choice Awards 2014.
But tourists travelling to the emirate – and reviewing its charms – are keen to see another side to Dubai other than its world-famous glitz and glamour, according to findings by the popular travel website.
The list of 646 recommended attractions that landed Dubai on the list features the usual suspects, such as the Burj Khalifa and Wild Wadi, but also a few unexpected and lesser-known entries.
The infamously traffic-laden Sheikh Zayed Road makes an appearance on the list as a ‘scenic drive’, as does Dubai Metro.
Gurunanak Darbar Sikh temple, Hatta’s rock pools, Dubai Creek, Al Ahmadiya School (Dubai’s first school) and ‘Bait Al Banat’, a museum showcasing accomplishments of Arab women, also share the list with some of Dubai’s more well-known attractions. Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding was also a popular choice with travellers, coming in at number five on the list.
“People to want to know more about our culture, history and faith, and that’s why SMCCU has become a top-ranked place to visit,” said SMCCU managing director Nasif Kayed.
Travel destinations across the globe were selected for the ‘Best 25 Places to Go in the World’ list based on reviews of their sights, activities and attractions posted on TripAdvisor.com by travellers. This is the first time Dubai has featured on the annual list.
The destinations that made the list were determined by the quantity and quality of their individual reviews and ratings posted by TripAdvisor users over the past 12 months.
