In the match, the Aussies won the toss and bowled first. But the pace bowlers, especially the ageing Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson, were wayward as Zimbabwe captain Duncan Fletcher cracked 69 not out to set up a total of 239 for six.

In the chase, it was fast bowler Fletcher who made his mark, scalping 4 for 42 as Australia stuttered to 226 for seven and lose by 13 runs. Off-spinner John Traicos also played a big role with a great spell of 12-2-27-0.
