A 22-year-old man poured boiling water over his brother and two sisters during a family argument, leaving them with first-degree burns, police say.

The incident occurred during a brawl at the Arab family’s home in Umm Al Quwain as the relatives argued following the funeral of their father. Public prosecutors said they ordered the arrest of the man after police confirmed he threw hot water at his siblings, causing first-degree burns and scarring to their faces.

Officers said a fight had broken out between the relatives, including three brothers and two sisters, at the family home just three days after the burial of their father.

The widow and some of her children had chosen to leave the family house after the death of her husband due to misunderstandings among family members. But the woman’s other children wanted their mother to stay in the house, which caused a quarrel among the siblings. The woman’s youngest son then allegedly grabbed a
container of hot water and splashed it at his brother and two sisters.

Prosecutors said that, as well as the burns to their faces, the man’s two sisters, aged 30 and 26, also suffered sight problems as the hot water burned their eyes. Their 35-year-old big brother suffered severe burns on his body. All were treated at Umm Al Quwain Hospital.

The man has been referred to court for burning his siblings and causing them injuries. His other brother, 39, who was also engaged in the brawl, was charged with assaulting his siblings.
