While much of the Middle East has already experienced snow and heavy rainfall this week, it looks like winter might be arriving in the UAE.

According to local daily newspaper Gulf News, temperatures across the UAE are set to drop this weekend to a chilly 12C, but the newspaper says there are still likely to be comfortable highs of 31C.

Lower temperatures are "likely from Thursday at least for the next three days as strong and cold Shamal (north-westerly) winds will hit the country," the report said. A weather alert has been issued by the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), warning people of cold and dusty conditions.

Drivers are also urged to be careful on the roads as visibility will be considerably reduced.
