Hard rockers Metallica are returning to the UAE to perform for a second time in as many years, riding on the back of the success of their 2011 appearance.

The Californian rockers will play at Abu Dhabi’s du Arena, Yas Island on Friday, April 19 and if their last show is anything to go by, tickets, which are already on sale, are likely to sell fast.

At the 2011 show the band’s front man, James Hetfield, told the capacity crowd they’d long been told they should play the Middle East. Repeatedly he shouted, “I’m so glad we came,” a comment that was met each time with elation from the band’s diehard fans.

FANS' ONLINE REACTION

Metallica’s rise to stardom, picking up nine Grammy Awards on the way, saw them emerge from the grungy underground music scene, to eventually becoming the most influential hard rock band in the world delivering some of the most intense, powerful and visually stimulating concert experiences ever.

Social media immediately reacted to the news with fans thrilled at the chance to see Metallica for a second time. These are just a few of the reactions to appear on Twitter:

The rockers joined an increasingly impressive list of stars to have played in the UAE. These include names such as Madonna, Kylie Minougue, Usher, Nickleback and Eminem. Other acts billed to play the UAE this year include Justin Bieber, Kanye and British indie rock band the Stone Roses.
