A man committed suicide by throwing himself on the Dubai Metro tracks on Monday morning, Dubai Police revealed.

The death caused a two-hour delay of the service on Monday, UAE daily The National said.

"A man's body was found at around 6am in front of the Jumeirah Lakes Towers station," Major General Mattar Khamis Al Mezaina, deputy Dubai Police chief, told a press conference.

The 36-year-old Indian man, identified only as HUM, worked as a driver in Dubai, according to The National.

Investigations revealed the man jumped over a low barrier near the Jumeirah lake Towers station.

Police concluded the death was a suicide bid after speaking to the man's employers and colleagues.

"His brother told investigators that he wanted to return back to his home country, India, and has quit his job. However, after his resignation was accepted, he faced some delays by the company, which affected him and his behaviour," Maj Gen Al Mezaina said.
