Girl jumps to death from Dubai tower

A teenage girl jumped to death from her 17th-floor apartment in Dubai's Jumeriah Lake Towers, UAE media reported on Monday.

The unidentified 14-year-old Indian girl allegedly took the plunge after she was scolded by her father over school homework, Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm reported.

Police said the girl's body was found by a building cleaner on Thursday evening. Her family were unaware she had committed suicide.

“Investigation showed she had been reprimanded by her father for not doing her school homework. She apparently decided to commit suicide by jumping down,” a police spokesman was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

In January, a 14-year-old Filipino boy was found dead in an apparent suicide after he was caught smoking by his father. The boy had jumped from his 13th floor apartment in Sharjah.
