Five big things to see at Gitex Shopper 2014

The UAE's biggest tech event is back and as usual it doesn't disappoint. With a host of new gadgets on offer, plus deals galore, there's something for everyone. We joined the guys at AbsoluteGeeks.com to take a tour of the event and here are the five biggest things that caught our attention.

Phones, phones, phones

This month has been all about mega phone launches, from Samsung's new Note 4 to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Not far behind are Blackberry with the square Passport phone, and not to mention the latest devices from Lenovo and HTC. All these phones are on display at Gitex, so head over to check them out.

But, if you were planning on getting your hands on the devices, you're going to have to wait: Samsung fans can pre-order the Note 4 for AED 2,799 while most of the major retailers have already sold out the new iPhones.

Buy a TV, get a BMW

If you've got a 100,000 dirhams to spare, why not splurge on a TV and drive away in a brand new BMW?

Sharaf DG is back with its popular free-car offer - all you need to do is buy a 55-inch curved LG TV for AED 99,990 and you can get a 2015 BMW 3-series worth AED 130,000 for free (that's quite a bargain). If you pay slightly less - AED 93,000 - you can get a Mini Cooper instead.

Free flights

Gitex is known for the freebies and retailer EMAX has dialed it up a notch this time around, offering free flights to 24 destinations from Singapore to Goa, when you purchase anything of a range of products. What's the catch? There's a limited selection.

Budget bundles

It's not just about the big new products, Gitex has a lot to offer for those working on a tight budget, including phones for under AED 600 and a host of freebies thrown in when you buy a laptop.

And this might be the best deal yet -  For AED 5,999 you get a 55-inch Hisense TV and a free Macbook Pro.

Just for fun

If you're not in the market for any new gadgets, just go for the fun day out and who knows you might just pick something up. With costumed aliens, live karaoke, raffles and road shows, a day a Gitex will be a day well spent. Just make sure you get there early (starts off at 11am) and take the Metro to avoid parking hassles.
