Dusty weather expected to continue in UAE

A massive sandstorm covered much of Dubai and Sharjah on Monday afternoon, with sandy conditions expected to continue this week.

Strong winds kicked up dust and sand, colouring the sky an orange hue and reducing visibility on the roads.

Gulf News reported the sandy conditions are likely to continue until Wednesday due to strong winds and cloud formations.

“We are at a season where we can expect gusty winds to blow dust and sand due to the formation of convective clouds coming from eastern and southern part of the country,” a National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) official told Gulf News.

Motorists have been warned to drive cautiously on the roads during the dusty conditions.

Some parts of Dubai and the oasis city of Al Ain also experienced light to heavy rain. Forecasters said light rain is expected on Tuesday over Hatta and Fujairah on Tuesday.

Residents took to social network Twitter and Instagram to share photos of the scene.
