Before we all start moaning about Dubai Canal construction traffic…

Let's take a second to stop and think about it.

We’re just about done with all the traffic drama caused in Dubai Marina by the tram construction work. But before we’ve even had a chance to recover, Sheikh Zayed Road is getting a 1-kilometre diversion from October 25.

An extra eight lanes have been built across Safa Park to allow construction work to begin on a 16-lane flyover for the Dubai Canal project.

Now before we all starting moaning about the newest road snarls, could we take a moment to talk about this? Here’s some of what New York went through in 1877 to become what it is today:

And don’t even get us started on London:

We take something like Business Bay for granted now, but can you remember how long it took to get to Sharjah while they were building that bridge?

And everyone had an opinion to offer about the Palm Jumeirah when it was being built. But it's still there – nope, it hasn't sunk yet.

Dubai Marina? The Walk is one of the best spots in the emirate.

And can you even remember what life was like before the Metro? That was well worth the jams all over the city.

Then, of course, there’s Downtown Dubai and our beautiful Burj Khalifa.

They all created mayhem while they were being built, but we couldn’t imagine Dubai without them. Progress takes sacrifice, habibis.

So next time you find yourself getting riled up in the traffic that's snarled around one of Dubai’s many construction projects, take a deep breath and remind yourself: you live in a booming metropolis at the most exciting point in its history.

It's worth the wait.
