Okay, so there's a danger that this map is the answer to a question that nobody was asking.

But even still, it's pretty interesting: Twitter has cooked up a clever map which has the ability to show how popular the Premier League's teams are in different countries around the world.

Almost, anyway. It actually measures how popular teams are based on their Twitter followers around the globe, so it could equally be argued that all this really tells us is which teams are most popular among the 9% of the world's population which uses the popular social networking site.

Or, when you consider that less than half of Twitter's 650m users are actually active (it's reportedly around 289m), 4% of the world's population.

Of course, of that 4% not all will be football/soccer fans. Let's say half are.

And of that half, most will probably follow local teams rather than foreigh sides. If they do, however, the Premier League is enormously popular overseas, so we might assume that half of them follow the English game.

What does that leave us with? This cool nifty map, which is the definitive guide to the Premier League loyalties of 1% of the world's population.
