World Cup stars' selfie curse and Leonardo Di Caprio's epic trip to Brazil

Often some of the funniest, most interesting and quirky moments at huge sports events go almost unnoticed, rarely featured in reports or blog posts.

Not so during the first two days of the World Cup. Here's three stories that caught our eye...

1) DO NOT HAVE A SELFIE WITH THIS MAN - Warning to stars over superfan selfie curse

Meet the World Cup’s very own Angel of Death

Football stars at the World Cup have been warned to be on the lookout for a young fan, nicknamed as #FanMaldito (or 'Damned Fan'), who might scupper their chances of glory in Brazil.

The unknown supporter has pounced on opportunities to take selfies of himself with several big stars in the past few months. And every single one of them has ended up sustaining freak injuries or suffering from bizarre decisions that have ruled them out of the tournament.

Franck Ribery, Samir Nasry, Marco Reus and Lucas Moura have all fallen victim to the curse of this mysterious fan - and footballers, being a superstitious bunch, are keeping a keen eye out to make sure they don't run into him. Look out!

2) WAVE YOUR FLAG - NO, NOT THAT ONE! - Opening ceremony blunder with wrong flag

No opening ceremony is complete without some horrendous gaffes and the Brazil organisers managed their fair share, including displaying the wrong flag while announcing Nigeria.

Instead of Nigeria's flag, it projected an image of Niger's flag onto the globe at midfield during the ceremony. Twitter user Cameron Laws pointed out the blunder. Niger's flag features three horizontal stripes. The top stripe is orange, sitting above a white stripe and a green stripe. There is an orange circle in the middle of the white stripe.

This isn't the first time the wrong flag has been displayed during a major sporting event. In the 2012 London Olympics, a women's football match between North Korea and Colombia was delayed because the organizers showed the South Korean flag while introducing the North Korean team, and the players refused to take the field.

3) PROBABLY THE BEST WORLD CUP TRIP EVER! - Leonardo DiCaprio's epic superyacht treat to friends

Leonardo DiCaprio certainly knows how to throw a party. Clearly a massive football fan, he has borrowed the fifth largest superyacht in the world to ensure his friends get to enjoy the World Cup in the most lavish style possible.

The imposing 482-foot Topaz - believed to have cost over $678 million – has been tucked away in Rio de Janeiro.

According to local newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo the superyacht is bigger than all but one ship in the Brazilian navy, but that’s clearly essential for DiCaprio as he is treating 20 of his friends to a World Cup adventure they will never, ever forget. We’re not jealous. Honestly.
