Officials suspended a football game between Athletic Bilbao and Hapoel Kiryat Shmona in Israel, the Spanish club said Wednesday, amid an escalating conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
The club gave no details of the reason for the postponement, which came after a bombing Wednesday on a bus in Tel Aviv. The Israeli government branded the explosion a terrorist attack.
With the Bilbao players all set to fly to Israel for the Europa League tie scheduled for Thursday in Kiryat Shmona, northern Israel, the match "has been suspended," Athletic said in a short online statement.
In a separate message on Twitter the club said the suspension was confirmed by UEFA, European football's governing body. UEFA officials were not immediately available to comment.
