For Dubai Metro users, station announcements are vital to help them travel around the city.

But for two German students who visited Dubai, they were the inspiration for an electronic dance track they’re hoping will be a hit.

Julius Wiesenhütter, who visited the emirate for a three-month internship, decided to create a song using samples of Dubai Metro’s automated announcements.

“I noticed that people quote the Dubai Metro announcements on a regular basis,” the 21-year-old told 7DAYS from his home town of Berlin. “The announcements are repeated so often that you learn how to pronounce each of the stations just like the speaker from the RTA does.”

Wiesenhütter contacted his friend Kevin Dollerschell, who produces electronic music, to collaborate on the project.

“We wanted to create a song that lets you experience your stay in Dubai as many times as you want, whether it’s part of your daily routine or it has been an unique experience on your vacation in the UAE,” said Wiesenhütter. After acquiring permission from the RTA to use the Dubai Metro announcements for their project, the pair recorded ‘Dubai Metro Tune -On the Way to Rashidiya’, a song featuring Arabic electronic beats and snippets of the metro announcements in both Arabic and English.

Wiesenhütter said the red metro line to Rashidiya, which connects many of Dubai’s tourist attractions, was the inspiration behind the song title.

It has been gaining popularity and even earned a play on Dubai 92’s breakfast show with DJs Catboy & Geordiebird. The song’s facebook page has gained almost 800 likes in one week.

“We’ve been getting reactions from people living in the UAE, as well as from people all over the world that love the city,” said Wiesenhütter. “We are trying to use our passion for music to make the Dubai Metro an even bigger experience for everyone. That’s what the ‘Dubai Metro Tune’ stands for,” he added.

‘Dubai Metro Tune – On the way to Rashidiya’ is available for download now on iTunes and Amazon. Follow its progress online at facebook.com/DubaiMetroTune.
