Alternative honeymoon ideas

Have you considered visiting the rainforest as an alternative honeymoon?
Have you considered visiting the rainforest as an alternative honeymoon?

Alternative honeymoon: Rainforest

Costa Rica, Ecuador, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia... the list of countries with spectacular rainforests goes on. So why not take your honeymoon as the perfect opportunity to see and explore these beautiful countries, enjoying romantic dinners and tours of the rainforest as you go. With such stunning surroundings, and some of the most exotic wildlife there is, you’re sure to come back from your honeymoon completely relaxed and content.

Alternative honeymoon: Volunteering

Like the idea of volunteering somewhere new and giving something back? Then get involved on your honeymoon – so many charities would love to have you there and would really value whatever you could do. There are so many opportunities to volunteer all over the world doing things such as teaching, building or even saving turtles. So get involved, do something great and see a new place whilst you're honeymooning.

Alternative honeymoon: Treehouse

Most of us dreamt of having a treehouse when we were younger, so why not live out that dream and stay in one for your honeymoon? Now we’re not just talking any old back yard treehouse – we’re talking serious business; luxurious rooms, bathrooms and sometimes even your own Jacuzzi. So take a look around and choose that perfect place among the trees so that you can be your very own Tarzan and Jane.

Alternative honeymoon: Road-trip

Go on a honeymoon road-trip down the famous Route 66. The ‘Mother Road’ takes you on a tour from Chicago right down and across to the Golden State of California – passing through a whopping 8 ‘awesome’ states en-route. So choose yourselves a Thelma and Louise-esque car (soft-top of course) and take to the road, making sure you stop in at as many old western-style/ghost towns as you can.

Alternative honeymoon: Ice, ice baby

Travel to one of the colder regions of the world and enjoy a perfect honeymoon winter wonderland. Places such as Finland are great if you’re looking to travel somewhere wintery, and many places offer ice accommodation… that’s right you could stay in accommodation made purely from ice – a pretty unique and darn romantic way to spend your honeymoon if we do say so ourselves.

Alternative honeymoon: Festival

With great festivals all around the world, this could be one of the ‘coolest’ alternative honeymoons to opt for. Get your outfits ready, sunglasses packed and head off to trendy Glastonbury or Coachella, sunny Benicassim, or try the German delights of Oktoberfest or the great Mardi Gras. Just make sure you’re ready to book as soon as tickets go on sale to avoid missing out.

Alternative honeymoon: Camping

Not the most glamorous of honeymoons you could go on, but a great one to opt for if you enjoy being outdoors, and travelling around seeing new sights. There are some great national parks and camping sites all over the world to see and stay in (Yellowstone being top of our list), with trails and walks to keep you busy. Then finish each day spending every night under the stars… pretty nice.

Alternative honeymoon: Climb Kilimanjaro

Up for a major honeymoon challenge? Then climbing the highest mountain in Africa could be the perfect fix. Find a tour to get involved with, and get yourself fit and ready to reach the summit. Whilst it may not be the most romantic of settings – this will definitely be a honeymoon to remember, plus the training will help you get super fit and toned ready for the big day.

Alternative honeymoon: Great Wall of China

Stretching approximately 5,500 miles, this would be a beast of a task to take on, and could take months to complete the whole thing. But if you haven’t got that much time, fear not, as you could still opt to walk the more popular parts of the wall, and see the truly amazing architecture that was originally built to stop invaders, not honeymooners!

Alternative honeymoon: Machu Picchu

This great place is becoming an increasingly popular destination, with its ancient ruins, and beautiful scenery. So get your walking boots ready and join the many people who have discovered the no longer ‘lost cities’ of Peru, taking in the beautiful ancient ruins of the Inca trail as you go – not just a regular honeymoon by any means.
