Afridi guides ADCB to big win in Ramadan T20 opener
Tariq Afridi struck an unbeaten 76 to guide Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) to an eight-wicket win over Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) in the opening match of the Pan Global Development Ramadan Twenty20 Cup at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
HAAD posted a competitive 149- 5 thanks to a half-century from Mohammad Ashraf (54).
Electing to bat first, HAAD lost opener Sandeep Menon (1) in the first over. But Ashraf and Jalal Bukhari (41) put on an 89-run partnership for the second wicket and revived the innings. HAAD batsmen continued to pile on the runs with Mohsin Anwar contributing 33 runs as they reached 149 in 50 overs.
Despite the competitive total, ADCB remained composed and started well as Afridi shared a 61- run opening wicket partnership with Zeeshan Mustafa (36).
After losing Mustafa, Afridi added 57 for the second wicket with Rehman Gul (18) and later went on to seal victory.
Elsewhere, Rohail Hamid (88 n.o) and Bilal Afzal (59) shared a 141-run opening wicket partnership to lead ADNOC to a nine-wicket win over Daman. Hamid’s 48-ball knock contained 10 boundaries and four sixes while Afzal hit 10 fours in his 41-ball knock.
Earlier, Mohammad Jassim smashed 74 to help Daman reach 172-7 in their allotted 20 overs.
