Adele’s ‘25’ Album Sells A Whopping 3.38 Million In Its First Week

Adele's '25' officially has the biggest selling week in Nielsen history.

Adele has officially sold the most albums in a week in Nielsen Music history. The beloved UK singer moved a whopping 3.38 million copies of 25 since its Nov. 20 release, edging out all other releases in the tracking’s history since 1991, Billboard reports. The album has also become the first to sell three million units in a single week, and is the second to reach over 2 million copies since NSYNC’s No Strings Attached in 2000.

Adele was already projected to top NSYNC’s record of 2.42 million copies in its first week. 25 has also beat out Taylor Swift for the best-selling album of 2015; Swift’s 1989 previously held the crown at 1.8 million copies. The singer penned a thank you note to her fans after the album’s release.

“I am so overwhelmed and grateful to be able to even put another record out, and put it out how I want,” she wrote on Instagram. “The last month has been a whirlwind, its literally taken my breath away. I hope you enjoy the record as much as I enjoyed making it for you.”

25 will sit atop the Billboard 100. This is Adele’s second time topping the chart.
