Abu Dhabi aims to set 'decorated car' world record on UAE National Day

Cars out in Dubai on the UAE National Day

With a whopping 28 world records to its name, Abu Dhabi is no stranger to the Guinness Book of World Records.

And next month, the record-breaking capital is looking to add yet another triumph to its glittering repertoire.

The Life and Style Show UAE and Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority have teamed up to launch a new world record bid - to set the mark for the highest number of decorated cars in one location.

Thousands of cars decorated in patriotic red, white, black and green flood the capital’s streets every year to celebrate the country’s National Day on December 2, and this year’s turnout is set to be bigger than ever. This year’s parade route will start at du Forum on Yas Island and cover more than 3.5km. More than 300 cars are expected to take part in the record attempt.

“The UAE is famous for its National Day parades across the different Emirates, and the tremendous amount of national pride on show as thousands of cars are decorated in the colours of the country’s flag,” said Ashley Roberts, event director at DMG Events Middle East, organiser of the Life & Style Show UAE.

Those looking to take part in the world record attempt must decorate their car in the UAE colours on at least two sides, with each decorated side of the car being completely covered. On the day of the parade, event organisers will inspect each car and approve those complying with the conditions to take part in the bid.

Emirati student Hamad Al Falasi, 25, decorates his car every year for National Day celebrations and is already starting to think about how he will adorn it for this year’s record attempt.

“Me and my friends all get involved every year. We love our country, so our independence day is a big deal,” he said. “People love for their cars to stand out in the crowd.

“Every year gets more and more over the top, so I’m sure there will be a lot to see this year with the world record bid. I will definitely be taking part.”
