A UAE fuel retailer is looking at bringing back self-service petrol pumps to its forecourts in the country’s capital, newspaper The National reported on Sunday.
Under the scheme, half the pumps in ADNOC petrol stations in Abu Dhabi will be converted to automatic, enabling motorists to operate and pay for fuel themselves.
As an incentive, a points scheme will be introduced for customers filling their own tanks, which will be redeemable against food and water, the report added.
But there will still be the option for those wanting to be served by an attendant.
ADNOC tried a similar scheme three years ago, but it was scrapped due to lack of interest, the report stated.
But there were also those who exploited the system by getting away without paying for fuel, the report added, citing an ADNOC member of staff.
