UAE Football Association chairman Yousef Al Serkal has announced he intends to join Zhang Jilong and Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa in the race for the Asian Football Confederation presidency.
Jilong is currently the acting president after Mohamed bin Hammam was handed a lifetime ban from football-related activities for trying to buy votes in the lead-up to last year's Fifa Presidential race.
Bin Hammam has appealled the ban, but no date has been set for the hearing and the AFC must have a full-time president decided by May. The situation is likely to lead to elections with Al Serkal the latest to indicate he will run.
Al Serkal's candidacy comes in the wake of Bahrain Football Association presidnet Al Khalifa indicating his intentions to run, meaning two nominees would come from West Asia, which has the potential to create division.
However, Al Serkal said in a statement: "I have a lot of experience in the Asian continent which will help me to my job in a perfect way.
"I'll continue in that to reach my goal to serve the Asian football and developing it assuring that Asian football developed a lot in the previous period."
